What is OEM ink for printers?
The acronym "OEM" stands for Original Equipment
Manufacturer. With inkjet cartridges, it basically means
that it is genuine name brand ink. If you have a Canon
printer, then the OEM ink would also be manufactured
by Canon, as opposed to a compatible, or generic version
of the same ink. OEM printer ink is very lucrative for
these companies, and they really don't like when you
buy compatible ink to save money. In some cases the
"same" OEM ink can cost twice as much as its
compatible or remanufactured counterpart.
Ever
wonder how you can get a great name brand printer for
under a $100? The reason is that companies like Canon
will sell the actual printer itself at a loss, assuming
that you will be buying their name brand OEM printer
inkjet cartridges in the coming years, which is where
they make a nice profit. Recently companies like HP
have lost revenue in the printer ink area, as people
have found the cheaper "compatible" alternative
to OEM.
